Published At: December 24, 2024Bangladesh continues to lead the way in sustainable manufacturing as two new ready-made garment (RMG) factories achieve the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Continental Garments Ind Pvt. Ltd. and Amir Shirt's Limited have joined the ranks of eco-friendly manufacturers, bringing the total number of LEED-certified green factories in the country to an impressive 232. This milestone underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to environmentally sustainable practices in its burgeoning textile and garment sectors.
The certification recognizes the factories' initiatives in reducing their environmental footprint through energy-efficient technologies, water conservation, and innovative waste management strategies. These efforts align with global sustainability goals and strengthen Bangladesh’s reputation as a pioneer in green industrial practices.
Mohiuddin Rubel, a former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), expressed pride in this achievement. Speaking to The Business Standard, he noted that the addition of these two factories not only bolsters the country’s total but also solidifies Bangladesh’s position as a global leader in sustainable apparel manufacturing.
